Our learning strategy

At Wingu Academy, we pride ourselves in providing affordable, top-class education focused on Africa and South Africa. Our primary division provides British International Primary and Lower Secondary curriculums (available 2020). Our secondary division provides the International GCSE or AS and A-level curriculum (available 2021). Our learning strategy includes:

Expert teachers
Specialised and up-to-date content
Innovative and interactive lessons
On demand knowledgeable tutors
Self-paced learning

Student & Parent support

  • Online lessons are recorded and are readily available.
  • We have a team of trained, qualified subject experts which provide students with continuous support.
  • Parents do not need to be subject specialists. We also provide additional support to learners with our easily accessible tutors.

Assessments

  • All tests, tasks and assessments are available electronically, and will be submitted on the Wingu Academy online platform. Term tests and exams are written completely online, under supervision.
  • All tasks and assessments are marked by Wingu Academy Staff.
  • Final International Exams are written in person at an exam centre of your choice.

Easy administration

  • Upon registration, we provide all new clients with an induction session and virtual tour of our platform. New clients will be able to virtually engage with a Wingu expert to ask questions and to become familiar with the Wingu Academy online platform.
  • You will be able to track your child’s progress through our system with easy access available to view marks, assignments and lessons that your child engages with.
Our approach caters for all the different learning styles, providing each student a personalised mix of self-paced independent learning and/or teacher guided schedules of work.
The approach allows deep learning for any personality type and the online courses guide the students effectively through the core curriculum. Various academic and non-academic support is offered to the students such as live seminars presented by qualified teachers, discussion classes for problem solving, academic support sessions for further assistance where needed, and learning caches that offer one-on-one support.

Innovation

At Wingu Academy we believe in pushing the boundaries of education, and that learning should be fun and engaging.

The Kukua programme

Learners are introduced to subjects such as coding, robotics, app development and game development from an early age to build a foundational grasp of these fields.

We partner with leading and trusted industry service providers to bring our learners the very best in education.

01

Wingu’s Entrepreneurship Programme promotes critical thinking and decision making skills which are skills that machines cannot be used for. These skills are two of the most important skills needed for the future of work.

02

At Wingu’s Wellness hub, students learn how to be aware of, control and express their own emotions as well as to be cognisant of the emotions of others. The webinars develop our students’ Emotional intelligence (EQ).

03

Human creativity is key to new ways of thinking which will be useful in solving problems, and to recognise new ideas which will be needed in the workplace of the future. As part of the variety of clubs offered at Wingu, the Science club offers scientific lab training which develops problem solving. Art and design is also offered from the first year of school to develop more specific creative skills.

04

The Global perspectives offering develops research skills as well as diversity and cultural intelligence.

05

Wingu’s student development programme is designed to develop interpersonal communication and leadership skills. These skills ensure effective communication between people. To enhance development of international communication foreign languages are offered from the first year of school. Robotics, coding and software development programmes offered at Wingu include instruction on different levels of coding, programming languages and website development. The technology skills developed through these programs make sure that students are aware of the potential impact of new technologies on different disciplines from a very young age (7yrs).

We foster a culture across the Academy that promotes the development of forward- thinking, growth mind-set oriented individuals. We even have a definition for it:

Wingulian

Adj: A Thriving, forward-thinking individual who sees all problems as exciting challenges and failures as learning experiences.

Noun: A team member, learner or family member of a learner that is Thriving at Wingu Academy.

Wingulians believe we should leave the world a better place than we found it. We use the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide the student leadership initiatives. Our student leadership runsrun an official foundation – The Wingu Cares Foundation – that has successfully supported numerous initiatives including those for the Endangered Wildlife Trust and Refugees.
