Registration
Apply online through the Wingu Academy website. Choose your pathway (CAPS or British International), complete the application, and an admissions consultant will contact you within one business day to finalise enrolment and set up platform access.
Previous school reports are reviewed at intake and your child is placed at the correct level. We need your child’s most recent Grade 8 report, ID or passport, and parent ID. A Student Success Advisor will plan any catch-up needed before term begins.
Yes, applications are open year-round and mid-term entry is supported. The admissions team will set up a smooth catch-up path with your child’s Student Success Advisor so they slot in calmly regardless of when they start.
Grade 9 is a very common entry point because it is the last year of the Senior Phase before FET Phase subject choices in Grade 10. Starting Grade 9 online gives your child a full year to adapt to the Wingu platform and learning style before those high-stakes decisions.
Curriculum
Grade 9 CAPS includes English Home Language, an additional language (Afrikaans or isiZulu FAL), Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences (Geography and History), Life Orientation, EMS, Technology, and Creative Arts and Design. Extra-mural language options (French, Spanish, German) are also available but do not count toward the CAPS qualification.
Grade 9 is the foundation year before subject choices. At Wingu, your child’s Student Success Advisor starts the Grade 10 subject guidance conversation early in Grade 9 so your family understands which elective combinations lead to which university and career pathways before the deadline.
Yes. French, Spanish, and German are available as extra-mural subjects. They do not count toward the CAPS qualification but they develop future-readiness and look great on any portfolio or university application.
CAPS Grade 9 is the South African national curriculum leading to the NSC. The British International pathway (Stage 9) follows globally recognised standards aligned toward IGCSE. Both are taught live online with the same support model but lead to different qualifications. Families choose one pathway at enrolment.
Daily life
Live lessons run Monday to Friday from approximately 07:45 to 14:45. Your child has four to five live subject blocks daily, with breaks, independent study, and optional clubs or Kukua add-ons in the afternoon. Every live session is recorded for catch-up and revision.
Grade 9 introduces slightly more advanced content as a bridge to FET Phase, but the daily structure is the same. School-Based Assessments (SBAs) become more frequent to prepare learners for the assessment style they will experience in Grade 10 through 12.
Every session is recorded and available on the platform the same day. The Student Success Advisor helps your child schedule catch-up and monitors whether missed content is being covered.

Every Wingu learner is assigned a dedicated Student Success Advisor who tracks academic progress, helps with study planning, flags concerns early, and guides the Grade 10 subject choice process. They communicate directly with you as the parent.
Subject teachers run additional help sessions, the Student Success Advisor steps in for academic guidance, and the wellness team supports emotional wellbeing. We flag concerns to parents early rather than waiting for report cards.
Yes. Please share any SEN documentation at application so support can be planned from day one. This includes concessions, learning differences, attention and focus support, and anxiety management.
Fees
Grade 9 fee options include monthly tuition on a fixed 11-month contract, or upfront annual payment with a discount (5% before 31 January, 3% after). Grade 9 is the qualifying year for entry into the FET Phase (Grade 10). Successful completion of Grade 9 at Wingu opens the door to Grade 10 on either the CAPS or British International pathway.
Your child’s Student Success Advisor starts the subject guidance conversation in Grade 9. By Term 3, families receive a formal subject choice guide aligned to university entrance requirements and Wingu’s available electives, so the decision is well-informed and timely.
