Registration
Yes, but timing matters. We need the Grade 11 report and current subject list to confirm the transfer. The earlier you apply, the smoother the onboarding before the Grade 12 SBA programme begins. Contact admissions to discuss your specific situation.
It depends on the point in the year. Switching schools for Grade 12 does carry SBA risk — some marks from the previous school may not transfer cleanly. The admissions team will assess your child’s specific case and give you an honest view before you commit.
Mid-year entry for Grade 12 is possible but significantly more complex than for earlier grades because SBA marks from Term 1 and 2 may already be banked. Discuss your situation with the admissions team as early as possible.
NSC / Matric
Wingu delivers the Grade 12 CAPS curriculum through a SACAI-registered examination body (Umalusi quality-assured). Learners complete SBAs throughout the year, sit mid-year and trial exams at Wingu, and write the final NSC exams through the Department of Basic Education at approved examination centres. The NSC certificate is issued by the Department of Basic Education and is identical regardless of which SACAI school the learner attended.
The main NSC examinations are written in October and November each year. The exact dates are published by Umalusi and the Department of Basic Education. Wingu prepares learners with trial exams in Term 3 and a structured revision programme in Term 4 before the main exam window.
For most CAPS subjects, the SBA contributes 25% and the final written exam contributes 75% to the NSC subject mark. For some subjects (e.g. Life Orientation), the SBA weighting is higher. Wingu communicates the exact weighting per subject at the start of the year.
The NSC has different pass levels. A higher certificate pass requires 40% in your home language and 40% in any two other subjects, with 30% in the remaining four. A diploma pass requires 40% in four subjects and 30% in the remaining three. A bachelor’s pass (university entrance) requires 40% in your home language and 50% in four other designated subjects, plus 30% in the remaining two. Specific university programmes add their own APS requirements above this minimum.
Learners who narrowly fail one or two NSC subjects may be eligible to write supplementary exams in January or February of the following year. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Basic Education based on the NSC results. Wingu supports learners through the supplementary exam process.
Daily life
The Grade 12 year follows a structured programme: SBAs in Terms 1 and 2, mid-year exams in Term 2, trial exams in Term 3, and a focused revision block in Term 4 before the November exams. Subject teachers adjust pacing to the matric exam schedule throughout the year.
The live timetable runs through Term 3. In Term 4, the schedule transitions to a revision and exam preparation format. Recordings remain available for self-directed revision throughout. Specific study leave arrangements are communicated at the start of Term 4.
Trial exams (preliminary exams) simulate the final NSC format — full papers, official timing, and exam conditions. Results are used to identify weak areas for targeted revision before the November sitting. They also build exam technique and time management under pressure.
Support
Subject teachers run revision sessions, past papers are available on the platform, the Student Success Advisor runs weekly check-ins through Terms 3 and 4, and the wellness team supports stress management. A structured revision timetable is provided for the Term 4 exam preparation block.
The wellness team is integrated into the Grade 12 support model. Learners have access to wellbeing resources, and the Student Success Advisor monitors for signs of exam-related stress. Parents are contacted proactively if concerns arise.

NSC exam registration fees are charged by the Department of Basic Education separately from tuition. Prescribed textbooks and any optional tutoring are also additional. The admissions team will give you a full cost breakdown on request.
Accreditation
Yes. The NSC issued to Wingu Grade 12 learners through SACAI is identical to any other NSC issued by the Department of Basic Education. South African universities process Wingu applications through the standard APS system used for all NSC holders.
Yes. The NSC is recognised internationally. For specific country or institution requirements (e.g. the UK UCAS system, US Common App, Australian ATAR equivalency), the admissions team can guide you on any supplementary documentation typically requested.
The Admission Point Score (APS) is calculated by converting each of your seven NSC subject percentage marks (excluding Life Orientation) into a point score on a 7-point scale, then adding them together. Specific university programmes publish minimum APS requirements. The maximum APS is 42. Wingu’s academic team can help Grade 12 learners understand their projected APS during the year.
Graduates receive their NSC results in January and can proceed to tertiary study, gap year programmes, or direct employment. Wingu provides reference letters and academic transcripts on request. The Student Success Advisor supports the transition during Term 4 through the initial university application phase.
